"Inscribe all human effort with one word, artistry's haunting curse, the Incomplete!"
-Robert Browning-
I declare myself the winner! I was finally able to get in some studio time over the weekend to prep some projects and I managed to start several however, following through to the finish was just not happening. Mr. Browning knows of what he speaks, see above quote, as an artist there are always too many ideas and not enough time to execute them all. I often have a half dozen projects going at once usually waiting on something to dry so I move on to something else. Eventually I do get back to the original project and complete it, usually.
I wanted to use a few of my recent finds and it occurred to me that I don't always show you what I actually do with some of the oddities that I find, like these three tiny chunky bird houses which I cut in half with a band saw...(Ooops! Forgot to take the pic before I cut them.)I used pliers to remove the perches and the odd little roof addition...
I prepped three of them for a set of tags using some of the wonderful paper darling daughter left behind when she moved out and the three of the little birds I found recently...
I used the tissue paper images I made last week to cover the three remaining bird houses...
I picked up a bag of five little matted Scriptures and originally thought I would use them as tag bases...
I used some of the paper that I let the Shabby Roses drain on for the frames and bits of the dyed gauze...I am still playing with bit and bobs as decorative elements as well as deciding if I want this to hang like a banner side by side, linked up and down, or if I will mount them on a piece of drop cloth canvas mounted in a black frame. I am leaning towards the frame I think.
I got this big letter "B" for a couple of dollars but am not crazy about the gold so I am using up some of my leftover paper scraps from other projects and some wall paper paste to cover it...(YIKES! Sorry about the blur, too late to take another, oh well, pobody's nerfect!)This will go on a shelf in my living room.
I almost finished a new piece to list in the shoppe! Here is a sneak peek...
The darling bird image is one that Dawn (The Feathered Nest) shared on her blog. Thanks so much for the image Dawn! If you would love to use this image just visit the highlighted link and it will take you to the post where it is featured.
After a ton of sewing I had a bunch of fabric and fiber clippings left over...
That cute little bird is another sweet find as are all the ledger paper in the background shots. I will be listing two half size ledger books with a fun local history behind them in the shoppe also. OK, so maybe I am not the winner since I did get one wee little project done but I could be since I did not show you the two bees wax collage canvas and nature journal in progress or the scarf that only needs about a dozen more rows to complete it, oh, and there is that paper doll project, as well as...see I totally could be the winner!
Speaking of winners, there are still a couple of more days to sign up for my give away,

So, what did you do, or like me, not do this weekend?

Miss Sandy
your post title cracked me up Miss Sandy...i never leave anything unfinished...once i get going on something i always see it through to the end with a determined focus...now, if you were talking un~STARTED projects...well, i could definitely give you a run for your money on that one...getting started is the hardest part for me!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Sandy, Everything you have pictured is darling. I think you just have too many good ideas to get them all done!!! The furnace on our main floor went out Sat. so we have been "camping" in the basement this weekend. We both have head colds so I am anxiously awaiting the repairman to show up today with the much anticipated part he had to order!
ReplyDeleteThanks for a glimpse at all your pretties.
Oh Sandy!!! Even though some projects may be yet unfinished, everything looks Beautiful!!!! I especially love your dream collage.. And your fiber nest! And those birdhouse tags are just too cute!! I am an instant gratification kind of girl, so I have a hard time leaving stuff unfinished. However, when something doesn't come out the way I want it to, it sits around unfinished for what seems like forever!!
ReplyDeleteOh, you didn't win at all...just look at all you accomplished! I thought of you and what you might do with something that has plagued me. I have a perfectly nice framed scripture "As for me and my house..." Thing is, John loves it, but it's soooooo pedestrian. I know that I could spruce it up, if I were you and were an "out of the box" thinker. ;>
ReplyDeleteHey Sandy, it's been too long since I have visited. I love those little birdhouses. They are so cute!
ReplyDeleteJust got back in this weekend from being in your state. My mom underwent surgery and has done really good.
Hope you are well.
Even If I didn't win the contest for the one with the most Unfinished projects...I would be a strong contender...
ReplyDeleteYour have the neatest ideas...TFS, and thank you for your email...
You are having TOO much fun with your daughters goodies! I love each and every single piece. You are sooo clever...you inspire me to "keep on keepin' on",
ReplyDeleteSharon
The paper that you drained your shabby roses on is beautiful- just the perfect amount of color to make your project really eye catching.
ReplyDeleteHi Sandy~
ReplyDeleteI just love everything you've made! You sound just like me though. My hubby comes into my craft room and looks around, shakes his head and walks out. He just doesn't understand that if I don't just start a project and then start another one when I think of it I will end up forgeting my ideas! Then it takes me forever to get them done. But I do (EVENTUALLY)get them done. Sometimes. ;D
My eldest son had his second surgery Friday, needless to say, I didn't get to do any crafting. But at least I'm getting to peek at what you've been up to and gives me that urge to get a least one project done! Thank you again for sharing.
Have a great week-
Sonya
I think you are a winner too, I love all your projects, finished or not. Getting started is the most difficult for me too. I had a family weekend. Visited my inlaws on Saturday and on Sunday my family and I went to the beach, after that we saw a movie and then went out for dinner. We had a lovely time, but at the time we went home. I just had to prepare for the coming week, so no crafting :-(, but we did have fun though. Weekends just should be longer! Have a nice week!
ReplyDelete"Unfinished but definitely in the process of being finished " should be the motto I hang over my work room door. Eventually I really DO finish every project, but my mind seems to always be racing to the next project while getting inspiration and ideas for others. Your blog doesn't help me in my need to moderate inspiration...thankfully!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully inspiring Miss Sandy.
Sandy, I don't know if I have a favorite here today! Everything's beautiful! I like the contrast between the two styles of birdhouses you created, one crisp and clean and the other antiqued!
ReplyDeleteHow about if we swap unfinished projects! LOL!
Diane
Good morning Sandy,
ReplyDeleteMy friend, Diane Knott, promised a visit here would be well worth it. Everything is so lovely.
I'd like to include your link in our community of "Beautiful & Creative Women."
May blessings bloom in your garden today!
Terri Conrad
oh - I´m so in love with your Dream pieces Miss Sandy - love all the details
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of unfinished pieces - Oh My... LOL
Hi Sandy,
ReplyDeleteMy hubby calls me the queen of unfinished projects - sure glad to know that there is a princes out there.
It sure seems that when we get close to finishing up on things we just have to start creating new and different project that will sit unfinished for awhile till the cycle again repeats. Yes we have unfinished pieces but they always change.
Hugs,
Penny
