MISS MARY'S MISSING MAIL...

" For the life of her Miss Mary could not imagine what had happened to the letter she was reading in the garden that very morning. Nor could she figure out what had happened to the pen she was using in her correspondence."

While browsing around blog land yesterday during a break I stumbled upon a collage sheet challenge from Mary of Green Paper. It looked like a lot of fun and since the studio is in at least functioning order I decided I wanted to play. Whoo Hooo! The very first merry making mess in the new studio!
Mary's challenge was to use the free collage sheet, with the three images she provided, to create an art piece in any medium using whole or at least part of all three images. The images were a woman, an old envelope, and a small floral image. My mixed media piece is entitled Miss Mary's Missing Mail. For the life of her Miss Mary could not imagine what had happened to the letter she was reading in the garden that very morning...Nor could she figure out what had happened to the pen she was using in her correspondence...I was suffering from serious creative withdrawal when I did this piece so I attacked technique with a vengeance. A smooth oval portrait canvas serves as a base for this piece which measures 12 in. by 9 in. The background is done in collage with various pieces of vintage ephemera including and old letter then spattered and waxed to resemble an egg.

I printed Mary's images on French Photo Paper and then hand tinted them.I used a triple printing process to print out the bird. The envelope nest is filled with a shredded old letter, twigs, pale green reindeer moss, the floral images, and speckled eggs.A snippet of lace, copper seam binding, an old pen, text from an old book, and the topping off bling of an old earring add finishing touches to the piece. You can visit Mary's linking page HERE to visit all the other artist who participated. It was so great to take a little break and make something...now, back to work on the studio itself, I can see the finish line!

Thank you for stopping in to visit!

Blessings,
Miss Sandy
