A STUDY OF THE FLEUR-DE-LIS...

In French, Fleur means flower and lis means lily (some translate it as iris) that is used as a decorative design or symbol.Did you know that the Fleur-de-lis is considered a stylized lily?In French, fleur-de-lis literally means " lily flower ".The fleur-de-lis is also said to be a symbol evoking the rising of the sun.The petals of the fleur-de-lis are said to represent faith, wisdom, and chivalry in heraldry which was added on to an earlier religious belief that the three petals stood for the Holy Trinity. The fleur-de-lis is a world wide recognized symbol, whether featured in art, architecture, religion, organization, monarchy, or a simple beautiful miracle of nature, it is a beautiful symbol, no? I hope you enjoyed my little study of the fleur-de-lis at the farm. Have a brilliantly beautiful weekend!

Blessings,
Miss Sandy

  2. I never knew those things. Day lilies are some of my favorite flowers despite their short lives. The last of them were spent yesterday and now I'm feeling an extra pang. Hope that I remember this next time they grace my yard with their presence. You have a great weekend, too!

  4. I enjoyed this. I learned many things I didn't know. I had no idea that a fleur de lis had anything to do with a lily (despite my 3 years of high school French!). As you might imagine, I love anything that has to do with lilies!

  10. Miss Sandy, I knew these things and have always loved the symbol as a religious one as a Christian. We all associate it with anything French, don't we! Awhile ago I looked up various ways of stylizing it because I had been asked to do a painting with fleur de lis accents and I wanted it to be a bit special. Oh my goodness, there are so many different ones from simple to ornate. I began seeing them everywhere!
We have day lilies in the garden but the voles ate every last one of the bulbs on our other varieties that were oh-so-colorful! I've heard you can enclose the bulbs in hardware cloth to protect them in the ground. Maybe someday...when I'm able to actually get down on my hands and knees in the garden...
    *sigh* Aging is no fun!
Have a wonderful weekend, sweet lady!
    Hugs, Diane

  12. Miss Sandy,
So much to comment on, where to begin?
The Fleur DE lis lesson was pretty cool. My daughter is named Lily, after my favorite flower. Photos beautiful as always.
Now lets move onto Karla & your previous post. Oh how I love that girl, & her notorious sidekick Beth. 2 of the most talented & generous girls in blogland. I love the treasures she sent you. I also love your idea of online workshop, (That Mary is another awesome Chicky) I for one would be thrilled to take a class from you. I was thinking of doing that too, kind of. I've had a lot of comments about my class at Maureen's from people out of state. Thought I could offer it online as well.
I hope you have a wonderful Sunday my sweet friend & can't wait to see what you do with the Karla goodies. Lisa
