Flight of Fancy - A soaring of the imagination; a usage dating from the mid 1600's

(Vignette on a trunk top in my family room)

Have you ever done something so mundane and so routine that you could literally do it with your eyes closed? These are generally the kind of tasks I like doing the least but so very often they are necessity. When I am faced with such unpleasantness I kick into auto pilot where my hands are busy at the task but my mind is free to take on flights of fancy.

Sometimes these flights are very colorful...(Hand tinted fabric sketch)

Sometimes they are quiet rests of reflection...(A restful little corner in my family room)

Sometimes they are happy trilling notes of praise...(One of my early pieces of collage art)

Sometimes they are faded memories of the past...(Nature Assemblage - A past project)

Sometimes I get so caught up in them...(Glass bird nesting in a cage in the studio)

And sometimes I wish I could bottle them...(Nature vignette in the family room)

Sometimes they wing me to unexpected places... (Vintage card, a favorite from Beth, in the studio)

Sometimes they soar into the depths of my soul... (A previous inspirational collage piece)

Sometimes they even turn a little blue... (A bluebird gift from my friend, Pam, hanging out in the studio)

But no matter the task at hand, my uncaged thoughts can wing themselves into flights of fancy... (Bird cage in the studio)

And before their course is run,
My dreadful task is done,
Much to my delight,
These winged thoughts of flight,
Have made the mundane quite pleasant,
Drawing me back to the present,
Refreshed by my little respite,
Of having taken flight,
Upon the wings of fancy.

Today my hands were busy but my mind was not very far from you, dear friends. I am leaving you some little winged gifts of vintage post card images that you can save and use as you wish...(FREE IMAGE)(FREE IMAGE)(FREE IMAGE)(FREE IMAGE)(FREE IMAGE)(FREE IMAGE)

I hope your Monday was a bright one!

Blessings,
Miss Sandy

P.S. I do hope you will forgive me for re-posting some older photos here. Today has been extremely busy and I did not want the day to go by without letting you know that I cherish your friendship.

I so wish I could put some of my pretties out. My 3 year old granddaughter would just love for me to do that too ;)

  9. This post made me heart want to soar and broat to mind a little ditty that I love to sing with my kids.

    A robin feathering his nest
Has very little time to rest
While gathering his bits of twine and twig
Though quite intent in his pursuit
He has a merry tune to toot
He knows a song will move the job along -

  12. Sandy, thank you for the lovely images. Yesterday was busy for me too. I painted a "cabinet of curiosities" and sent it off to my agent via a jpg with hopes for licensing it. Wish it could go off on your bluebirds wings!
Hopefully today will bring less mundane chores and more creative ones for you!
    Hugs, Diane
