CURIOUSER AND CURIOUSER...

"If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what it is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?"

-Alice-If you have been curiouser and curiouser about where I have been, I have been spending some time with Alice in Wonderland. Sitting on a stool in my studio Alice and I had ourselves one grand adventure. As I contemplated the design for my art tags for Karla's Alice Tag Swap I thought I might need to refresh my memory of scenes from the story.I located my childhood copy of Alice in Wonderland thinking I would just thumb through the pages with illustrations for some ideas. I flipped quickly through the book then went back to the beginning looking for a quote. Then next thing I know I was sitting on the river bank with Alice getting drowsy and then I am tumbling down the rabbit hole peeking in curious cupboards and wondering when we would land.As my eyes drank up the words on page after page time stood still and then wound itself back upon itself and I was not a 40 something perched on a stool but a grade school girl skipping home from school. Sliding through the door of time I was grabbing my red leather copy of Alice in Wonderland from the shelf, a quilt from the closet, a cookie from the counter, and off I went to my secret spot, under Mrs. Owens huge back yard bush where it was hollow.
Mrs. Owens, our neighbor, let me crawl up under the thick foliage of her overgrown shrub and spread out my quilt to read undisturbed until my heart was content or my mother came home from work and made me return home. I imagined I was Alice under there and that the wild brown bunnies that sometimes came to munch on clover on the other side of the foliage were really the white rabbit.Sometimes I would flip over onto my back and stare up at the sun dappled leaves and fat purple berries, squinting my eyes to make them blur and look like kaleidoscope images. I wondered what it was like to live in a place like Wonderland where nonsense made all the sense in the world. I still wonder that sometimes.
Page after page I relived Alice's adventures smiling here and there as familiar faces, voices, and scenes unfolded themselves before me both from the book and from my childhood. Both being pleasant past times. As I turned the last page I realized why I liked this book so much as child, it was pure imagination.

Time rewound itself bringing me back to present day where my imagination was fired up. So much so that I went beyond creating the tags required for the swap to making a collage an over sized collage tag depicting two of the scenes from the book.

"No wonder you are late. Why, this watch is exactly two days slow."
-Mad Hatter-"Read the directions and directly you will be directed in the right direction."
-Doorknob-"Better read it first for if one drinks much from a bottle marked "Poison", it's almost certain to disagree with one sooner or later."
-Alice-Daisy: What kind of garden do you come from?
Alice: Oh, I don't come from any garden.
Daisy: Do you suppose she is a wildflower?"Who's been painting my roses red?
WHO'S BEEN PAINTING MY ROSES RED?
Who dares to taint
With vulgar paint
The Royal flower bed?For painting my roses red
Someone shall lose hes head."
-Queen of Hearts-The Rose: Just what species or, shall we say, genus are you, my dear?
Alice: Well, I guess you would call me...genus humanus...Alice.
Daisy: Ever see an Alice with a bloom like that?
Orchid: Come to think of it, did you ever see an Alice?
Daisy: And yes, did you notice her petals? What a peculiar color.
Orchid: And no fragrance.
Daisy: And just look at those stems. The Rose: Rather scrawny, I'd say.
Bud: I think she's pretty.
The Rose: Quite, Bud.Alice: Oh. but that is nonsense. Flowers can't talk.
The Rose: But of course we can talk, my dear.
Orchid: If there's anyone around worth talking to.
Daisy: Or about.
"When I get home I shall write a book about this place...If I ever do get home."
-Alice-

It looks like I will be away from the computer until the first of the week. Handy Hubby is taking a long weekend and we will be checking out a new to us off road trail and then going to check on things at the farm. Hopefully when I return I will have a new adventure to share with you since this will be my first off road UTV/ATV experience.

I hope you all have delightful plans for your weekend!

Blessings,
Miss Sandy

They are absolutely, positively beautiful! Alice is perfect, from the pleats in her skirt to the sparkly apron in place (plus, I love Alice among the flowers and lace).

My plans are not nearly so delightful as yours! Be careful out there!

This post is so wonderful that I want to go find my Alice in Wonderland book. It's dark blue and that's all I know. I think I would enjoy it ever so much than I did as a little girl when I really didn't like it very much at all.

Your tags are, as always, lovely and creative and themselves loaded with imaginative elements. So very like you!

I don't think I've ever enjoyed "Alice in Wonderland" as much as I have today reading your blog and resting my eyes on your beautiful work of Alice. You really brought everything to life. I enjoy your writing as much as your art. You are truly a gifted and talented lady. I enjoy you so much.
Hope you have a wonderful time with hubby.
Hugs, Pat

Love those tags, and have been having adventures myself with creating tags! Fun, fun, fun...so many things to create, so little time, but I have often thought of all the time in eternity to create and do so in praise, honor, and glory for our Heavenly Father. I think my husband will be tending heavenly bee-hives and gardens.

What a fun few days you will be having, although I suspect some of your most fun days are in your art studio.

I started flipping through my old book for quotes and bits to cut out, and ending up reading it all too. And re-reading as I snipped. The book was old and falling apart, and I have a decent copy to read, but I sure enjoyed the pieces of this one as I made the tags!

Your little blue gowns are just amazing. How beautiful!!

I DID get one of your gorgeous tags in my tag book Sandy! I am just tickled pink about it! It's just incredible. I'm in awe of your talent!

Thanks for the tip on printing on fabric attached to freezer paper. Will inkjet printers print directly on fabric?
