A Rustique Christmas...

Never worry about the size of your Christmas tree. In the eyes of children, they are all 30 feet tall.
~Larry Wilde, The Merry Book of Christmas~

Finally some time has opened up that I can decorate my little creamy dreamy tree! In years past I have decorated a traditional big tree. We have had trees with ornaments we have collected over the years, trees that featured handmade treasures by my children, myself and friends. We have had a retro pom pom aluminum tree with original vintage balls my parents bought when they got the tree, complete with rotating tree stand and color wheel. We have had tall trees and small trees with themes of all sorts. I have decorated for the children, for the family, and even had a touchable tree for my little grandson. But, this year I am decorating a tree for me.

This is our first Christmas with an empty nest and I wanted to do something different that is not so memory soaked that it would bring sadness instead of joy. I drug out a rusty yard sleigh that has not been in use in years and a small tree that was formerly white but has faded to a wonderful cream. I fluffed the tree, filled it with white lights, potted it, and then put in the sleigh.I put the sleigh on the big table between the sofas and draped it with dreamy vintage lace table cloths.
I will be using creams, whites, warm neutrals, natural elements, and hard metals, all with a rusty antique vibe, so, we will be having a Rustique Christmas, which suits me just fine. My daughter will think it is cool and the rest of my family will think I am crazy but no matter, this is my year to have a tree and this one suits me to a tee!

I started decorating it yesterday with elements like these:

Brass Chain...Old Keys and Twine...And I started making these...And this...
I will spend the day today completing the ornaments, adding them to some I previously made and then tomorrow will be the big decorating day!

My decor for this year is simple just the one tree, the nativity, the fireplace, the dining table, and the kitchen nook. I am keeping the theme similar in all the areas so I have made some fun stuff to use. I hope to have a big reveal on Friday or Saturday. I know I am cutting it close on decorating but I'll leave the table scape up through January.

Don't forget that tomorrow is the last day to sign up for my Holiday Give Away!

I hope your day is full wonderful plans and unexpected joys.

Christmas Blessings,
Miss Sandy

I love your idea of creating something new to keep the sadness at bay and your tree is wonderful!

I have to know how to make those balls. It gave me an idea for a future year to make a "writing" tree for my office.

Enjoy your lovely decorations and this first empty nest Christmas.

I love your little tree and we too are having an empty nest christmas but that has been the story for many years now. I don't think it get any easier as each year I wish Santa would bring my family for Christmas. I have 3 daughters and 11 grandchildren. Christmas is all about Family and I just wish that we could celebrate it together.
Anyway, your tree is lovely and I love the idea. Do you mind if I borrow your idea next year?
Merry Christmas
PS we have the saying by Emerson on a plaque by our front door.

This is our first empty nest Christmas, too. I made an Advent calendar for myself - for a grownup girl.
May you find joy in your celebrations of Christ's birth!

Good for you, and such a pretty tree. I like the idea of the beautiful and the rustic together. I bet you will get lots of postive feedback when your done. And those who look askance at the idea, will be won over I'm sure. Life is about moving through the days were given. Your doing a wonderful job this season.

Such a unique and lovely idea for a tree. There is nothing better than reusing something with other things to create a one of a kind look. Very creative.

It is all so lovely Sandy :) Glad you are treating yourself to your OWN tree this year :) So am I , we are celebrating some where else this year, so since no one will see our tree, I just fluffed it to make ME happy :)

I can't wait to see what you do for this year. So far the teaser looks great. I did a very different thing for me this year. I love the blue tree but, don't like it in the kitchen area. It just doesn't seem right not to have Santa & the red & white. Oh well, next year things will be different. Sure not going to take it down now. I too did a simple white tree with glittered birds. Hope you got to see it. Hugs! Charlene

What a great idea. I love the rustique look. We have an old aluminum tree too, complete with the old balls and color wheel. I've only put it up a couple of times because it's getting pretty fragile. It's the one from my parents too.
Blessings,
Marcia

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! I keep thinking I will have time to create but for some reason God has ordained to fill my time with very needful things...so I am looking at your blog late at night after I get a break and pondering the one project I have upstairs to finish, just for my pleasure...and it includes a little something from you..maybe by Monday I will have time....one can hope.
