Serendipity Sunday: Indwelling Spirit

Serendipity: Making a delightful and unexpected discovery

"...Their strength is to sit still."
~Isaiah 30:7~
(photo source ~ Person at the window by Salvador Dali)

This week some tiny volumes of poetry unexpectedly made their way into my hands through a sweet friend. The tiny paperback books are full of beautiful illustrations and uplifting words of poetry and Scripture. One particular piece caught my eye as I as was skimming through them. When I read the Scripture reference, "...Their strength is to sit still." (Is. 30:7), I realized how much I had chaffed under the restraint of stillness through illness these last two weeks.

It made me wonder what opportunities I have missed fussing and fretting about what I was not able to do. By nature I am a "doer" not one to just "be". I have spent a great deal of time wistfully wishing like the woman depicted in the above Dali painting that I was out there instead of in here. What if I had spent more time tapping into the well of quietness, supping on the strength of the indwelling spirit, allowing gentle guidance, and having a teachable spirit? I discovered that it does indeed take much strength to be still and that it cannot be done with my own will.

INDWELLING SPIRIT
~Roxie Lusk Smith~

Mid the clamor and the turmoil,
When the world would have its way,
Tap indwelling wells of quietness
That will feed me through the day.

Be my source of inspiration;
Be my inner poise and calm;
At the alter of my being
Send sweet harmonies of balm.

When I feel distraught and burdened
And there seems no listening ear,
filter through my veins the order
That controls and conquers fear.

When annoy disrupts the silence
And confusion prompts dismay,
Let my spirit rise to meet Thee,
On the strains of peace, I pray.

Oh what a delicious meal I missed by not letting that well of quietness feed me through these last days! Praying I will not again miss the opportunity to sit and sup!

Blessings,
Miss Sandy

Sandy, I hope you are feeling better and stronger. Sometimes it is hard to be still and "listen." This poem is very uplifting and I thank you for sharing. Blessings to you this day.

Poetry tells us in one stanza what a preacher would not be able to tell in an hour. ;>

Hope that you are feeling a lot better and that you will be about doing again. Until then, take rest in your new-found season of being.

Lovely poem. It calms me just to read it. I'm glad you are feeling some better, and I hope you continue to take care of yourself. Yes, those who wait on the Lord are renewed. Such powerful words, and a wonderful thought for the day. We all struggle with being still. Thank you visiting my blog and for your kind words. Blessings to you.

so true, very hard for me...a doer, a "Martha " , forgetting Mary chose the perfect way. Sitting at His feet.

I do hope you are feeling better Sandy. I agree with Mildred. Sometimes it is awfully hard to sit and be quiet.

I never was a lover of Salvador Dali. I have never seen this painting and find it quite lovely. Thank you.
