Serendipity: Making a delightful or unexpected discovery
"Even there shall your hand lead me, and your right hand will hold me."
~Psalm 139:10~
Two simple words, "even there" have come to take on a new depth and meaning to me. The Lord heightened my awareness of these words one chilly morning in mid-December a few years ago. The chill was not from the near freezing temperatures outside but from a darkness that had encased my heart and emotions and gripped me in the bone chilling hopelessness of depression.
My delightful and unexpected discovery during this time of darkness were the threads of hope in two little words, "even there". Today I want to share a portion of a page from my private journal for those who may be going through their own "even there" times.
"...I opened my devotional and the first highlighted words were ~ "Make me your focal point..." That is exactly what I am trying to reestablish, You as my main focus. It gets even harder when I try to balance commercialism with the true meaning of the manger. Help me to keep my eyes and heart firmly fixed on You. Forgive me for wandering so far and so wide and so deeply away from that focus. Forgive me for taking control and trying to order my world so it is predictable and feels safe. No only is it impossible, it has totally stunted my growth in You.When my private world feels unsteady, I tend to retreat and try to control. What I should be doing is gripping Your hand for support and depending on You and not myself. I often yearn for a problem free life, so I just hide out and avoid situations and people. Forgive me that I ignore the fact that trouble highlights Your presence and my awareness of You. Enable me to accept the value of problems in life, considering them joy, knowing that you control all situations. Remind me often that I have an eternity of trouble free living awaiting me in heaven!
Psalm 139:10 says, "Even there will Your hand lead me, and your right hand will hold me." Even there ~ words to ponder. For me "even there" is in times of fear, uncertainty, trouble, trial, tribulation, joy, abundance, whether I abase or abound, in the darkness of depression, in the midst of financial insecurity, at all times You are present, "even there". Lord, I think these two little words have just taken on new depth and meaning ~ "even there". Plant them firmly in my heart and mind, bring them to my remembrance often and especially in my time of need. These are life changing, attitude adjusting words! I praise You and thank You for them!..."
Remember that whatever you are in the midst of He is with you, "even there".
"When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
And when you pass through the rivers,
They will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
You will not be burned;
The flames will not set you ablaze.
For I am the LORD, your God,
The Holy One of Israel, your Savior...
You are precious and honored in my sight...
I love you...
Do not be afraid, for I am with you..."
Isaiah 43:2-5
And when you pass through the rivers,
They will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
You will not be burned;
The flames will not set you ablaze.
For I am the LORD, your God,
The Holy One of Israel, your Savior...
You are precious and honored in my sight...
I love you...
Do not be afraid, for I am with you..."
Isaiah 43:2-5

Such peaceful, reassuring words you share this morning Sandy. Thank you dear friend.
I think we have all had "even there" times. You are such a wonderful inspiration and I thnk God for the talent he has given you. Thank you for sharing and putting wonderful thoughts of peace and hope in me.
What a wonderful post! And very timely for me. Isn't it awesome that the Lord can use blogging friends to give us just the word of encouragement we need at any given time.
Also, Isaiah 43:2-5 was a suprise that my husband had the minister read to me when we said our wedding vows. Thanks for the reminder of that this afternoon.
Have a peaceful week...but if not, "even there..."
Even there...I'm taking special note myself of these two words...thank you, Miss Sandy. You're another one willing to open your life so that others may learn. Having just come from Brenda's at Coffee Tea Books and Me...seems as if I've got a theme going.
Miss Sandy, those verses from Isaiah have comforted me over and over during the depths of my own depression last year. Now I will add "even there". I'd read it a hundred times but you put a new slant on it for me. Thank you...
I just love your blog, so much inspiration. I wish you well!

I can so identify with wanting to keep my world safe and problem-free. I wrote about this recently here. This paragraph especially sums me up:
"I often yearn for a problem free life, so I just hide out and avoid situations and people. Forgive me that I ignore the fact that trouble highlights Your presence and my awareness of You. Enable me to accept the value of problems in life, considering them joy, knowing that you control all situations. Remind me often that I have an eternity of trouble free living awaiting me in heaven!"
The past trials should remind me of God's presence and support for anything else that might come, but too often I just want to feel "safe." I know on one level that the safest place is in the middle of His will. Thank you for the reminder that "even there" He will lead me and uphold me.
Hello Miss Sandy,
