2008, A Year In Review...

"We meet today
To thank Thee for the era done,
and Thee for the opening one."

~John Greenleaf Whittier~
This morning I was over visiting Laura of Decor to Adore and saw a wonderful post on her year in review with pictures and links entitled, Memories. She was participating in an blog event hosted by Cindy of My Romantic Home. Cindy is hosting a link up of A Year In Review 2008 where she shared a collage of photos from her blog for this year. If you would like to join in, just go here for details.

Below is a small photo mosaic of some favorite photos scattered throughout some of my blog posts for this year.

2008 Year In Review

Cindy, thanks so much for hosting and for this great idea! It was a lot of fun to go through all my posts for 2008 and see which ones stood out to me. I have posted more photos in calendar order and given a brief description of the post as well as the link if you wish to visit that specific post. 2008 has been an amazing year and I am so glad I captured some of it in words and photos. I never knew that blogging would be such a wonderful way of memory keeping. I hope you enjoy this year in review!

To visit any of the posts, just click on the highlighted link next to the month.

JANUARY: The Bloggies!
This post was written during the writers strike in Hollywood. The titter was that there might not be any awards ceremonies because of the strike. I did a bit of a spoof on this topic after receiving some sweet awards from fellow bloggers. That is me in the photo decked out for my red carpet run!

FEBRUARY: Seaside Dreams and Mermaid Things!
This post started out to be on sharing an art swap I participated in and turned into a collection of beautiful seaside memories from my life.

MARCH: The Easter Parade!
This post was a blog event that I hosted and was a ton of fun to put together. Everybody loves a parade so I hope you enjoy this one!

APRIL: Dressed to a Tea!
This post was when I was participating in a blog-a-thon hosted by Gracious Hospitality. The posts related to this event were all tea themed. Here I share some recipes as well as my fantasy tea by the sea!

MAY: The Road Less Traveled!
This post was just one of those fun family outings and adventures where fun and delightful discoveries were made along the way.

JUNE: Heirlooms, Treasures, and Keepsakes!
This post shares a few family heirlooms, keepsakes, and treasures and the stories to go along with them.

JULY: Where I'm From!
This is a kooky post filled with random stuff but ends with a poem I was inspired to write that tells you who I am and where I'm from.

AUGUST: Bring Flowers!
This is my favorite pictorial post. It is just a few simple shots of flowers on the banks of Mammoth Springs on a day trip my husband and I took.

SEPTEMBER: Words and Birds Converge!
This post is my favorite art piece that I created this year. I love everything about this piece from the poem that inspired it to the rock that lead to its creation!

OCTOBER: The Father's View!
This post shares an entry from my personal journal and remains one of my favorite inspirational posts here at the Quill.

NOVEMBER: Show Me Your Glory!
This is another inspirational post that remains dear to me as God ministered to me through the glory of His creation.

DECEMBER: Warm Winter Wishes!
This is a favorite recent post with a bit of wit and humor thrown in with a work in progress piece of art.

One thing I came to realize after previewing all my posts for this year that they are not particularly picture rich so I think this is a challenge I will take on for 2009. Who knows where my blogging adventures will take me next? I look forward to the next leg of the journey. Thanks for traveling along with me!

Blessings,
Miss Sandy

My posts are so picture rich that the mere thought of going through and finding one for each month is overwhelming. LOL! But I love the idea and I really enjoyed yours a lot. I remembered right along with you and now I'm going back to revisit a few of these.

That was a fun look back. I posted a list of the first sentence of the first blog post of each month, but didn't think to look for pictures to post, too.

Hi, Sandy - I am too tired to do this myself (although I love Cindy to death!), but I sure enjoyed looking at your year in review. What gorgeous photos. You are a terrific photographer.

I still love my cute little snowman ornament you made! Awwww - I actually may keep him out for the rest of the winter. He's adorable.

So nice to meet you, Sandy ... thanks for stopping by to see my Year In Review photos.

I am deeply drawn to your Words & Birds Converge artwork. Yes, the rock "in the raw" has a definite Shakespearean feel, but my first glimpse of the close-up photo reminded me of the Rat King in The Nutcracker ... frilly collar, rich velvets, and a sense of noble arrogance.

I saw the other photos of your Words work on your Flickr page, before coming to your blog. And I was smitten with the pic called Hand Tinted Theater Details, even before learning it was part of a larger work.

I have a huge love of old movie theatres of the type that barely exist any longer, the ones that began as Vaudeville houses and have large auditioriums, beautiful proscenium arches, full sized stages, and romantic balconies. I worked my way through college managing theatres for what was originally Fox West Coast, and truly cannot stand watching a movie in what passes for today's postage-stamp-sized theatres. I'll take faded glory, worn velvet seats, and gilded murals of chariots and cherubs any time :o)

I love to visit/tour old theatres whenever I have the chance, and am saddened when I find one of the lovely old ladies still standing, but all chopped up inside to accomodate multiple screens. That's what happened to Oakland's Grand Lake Theatre, which I had the pleasure of managing for two years in the 1970s. But Oakland also has the fully restored Paramount, which is an absolute jewel, though I haven't been inside since leaving the Bay Area for Los Angeles in 1977.

Another favorite of mine is the Fox Theatre in St. Louis: I attended two concerts there a couple summers ago, and it's a true work of art ... fully restored and gorgeous!

Happy New Year to you, and thanks for stirring up some memories. I'll be back to explore your site in depth very soon.
