When packing for any trip it is essential that I include some sort of crafting supplies and my recent trip to the sea shore was no exception. I chose a small pair of folding scissors, three sizes of needles, a partial spool of white thread, and a mini bottle of Tacky Glue (not pictured)...
I stuffed two little satin coin purses (purchases from one of Beth's shops (blog: Gathering Dust) Gathering Dust etsy shop or Sugarpinkmoon etsy shop) full of tiny bits, one with fabric scraps left over from my latest project...
The other with a few fresh water pearls, assorted beads, and some ready drilled shells and stones...
Adding a few beach finds once I arrived...
I used as my inspiration a cuff my sweet husband purchased from Diane Knott (blog:
Diane Knott's Musings) Cottage by the Pond etsy shop a year or so ago. It is one of my favorite pieces of jewelry. Diane's hand work is impeccable!...
I set out to create some embellishment pieces to add to some fabric back grounds I had previously sewn...
To use as pages of a fabric book to chronicle our vacation to the beach...
I sat sewing sea shells by the sea shore creating little embellishment pieces that were mostly done while relaxing on the B&B (balcony or beach!) where I could DREAM beside lapping waters...
Soaking in the BEAUTY of the deep blue-green sea...
Where the views of ocean, sky, and sand never cease to INSPIRE...
Inviting one to EXPLORE...
And DISCOVER the gifts of the sea...
Each embellishment is about 6 in. long and 1 in. wide. I will be adding backing pieces as I attach them to the book pages. The plan is that this will be summer project to work on when I feel inspired to. I am still processing photos from the trip so I am not ready to begin assembling the book yet.
When I got back home I started making my own version of shell embellishments for some of the book pages. A little handmade paper, a loose sketch with a bit of shading, some wire, glue, and glitter later I had this...
Not too bad for the first try.
What are your "can't leave home without them" traveling art supplies?
Do you travel light too or do you pack your whole studio?
I hope your day is filled to the brim with small joys that make you smile and big blessings that make you grateful!
Blessings,
Sandy
P.S. My blog posts may be few and far between, my mother has had a few bad spells, toss in a birthday, a three day holiday, a deadline that has to be met by the end of the week, a Handy Hubby who insists on going up to the farm a few days to get some projects done and I am tying to figure out how to breathe much less blog, I will see you when I see you!

Sewing shells with an ocean view sounds pretty close to heaven. Hapy creating!
Another busy week for you! We will commit you and your doings to the Lord knowing that you'll float back down when you can.
What craft supplies do I take? Why none. Never. I have never taken craft supplies with me ever. Sometimes I have bought them because I realized that six weeks at the cottage without a thing to do but swim, read, and pick berries would not be enough. Perhaps I am wise enough now to know that I might need something...some crocheting or knitting...something to keep the hands busy.
I really like the idea of your vacation scrapbook. It will be unlike any other.
Your stitched sea collages are stunning. You certainly maximized your supplies with your inspiration beach as you created little masterpieces. I always travel with some sort of supplies...depending on where I am going and for how long. Mostly I take things but never create with them as time does not allow. Sometimes I only take drawing materials hoping I shall have divine intervention and be able to draw. I still cannot draw at all. Let your days be free of stress and try to enjoy all you can. I continue my prayers for your mom and family. Blessings...
It's nice to know I'm not the only one who takes craft stuff to the beach; my main problem is limiting it to one bag^^
Dear Sandy, what a beautiful and summerly post.
Your gorgeous embellishments are a beautiful way to add beach, summer and sun to your new book, and I`m totally facinated by your own shell-you are a master Sandy, it is fantastic.
The cuff you have from dear Diane, is the most wonderful inspiration, I love her creations, too.

I love your sea-scape starts! Absolutely stunning! I am readying for a vacation and will bring hand sewn dolly parts to work on while we travel. Busy hands...happy hearts!
Sandy your creations are just lovely. I'm a "...must pack this just in case I might need it..." type. I try not to let it get out of hand but after all - I MIGHT need it LOLOLOL
Nature and your gifted thoughts and talents, WOW! These are beautiful, each a treasure...Love, Mary
Oh - you´re the one who snapped up those coin purses from Beth before I could get them... :-)
Your cuff is beautiful Miss S.
blessings T
ps: almost done - can´t wait :-)
Lovely!
As for when traveling. I pack a journal (or two), watercolors, brushes, Pitt pens, gluestick, scissors if I'm not traveling onna plane, matte medium, foam brush, paper ephemera bits... I get it into a makeup bag .. weights quite a bit but I have about all I need ... except the time I forgot to pack foam brushes for the matte medium -- then I used my fingers :)
I love this!!!
Beautiful! I've used shells several places this summer for the first time. They look so fresh and pretty.

Oh sooooooooooo pretty. You got me at BEACH or SHELL!!! I am obsessed with the whole beach, shell, ocean, mermaid..... thing right now. I am just back from another trip to California & I can tell you there was a full moon over the ocean as we drove through Santa Barbara that just took my breath away. MAGIC!!!! I think Hubby is beginning to worry about me! WOW the shell you drew is amazing! I don't think I would do so well. THANKS for sharing. HUGS!
