SOMETHING WONDERFUL THIS WAY COMES...

 "We will open the book.  Its pages are blank.  We are going to put words on them ourselves.  The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day."

 ~Edith Lovejoy Pierce~

 There is something so anticipatory about being on the cusp of a new year with all those neat blank squares on the calender pages waiting to be filled with living.  I feel ready to rise up to the challenges the new year might present and excited over the opportunities that might come my way.  Mostly I am grateful to have made it through this past year.  This will not be a time where I will want to reflect back overmuch choosing instead to set my sights forward.

I have spent months in personal preparation for the new years arrival knowing changes would be on the horizon.  Now that is is finally here I feel a tad bit at loose ends as to how to begin at a brand new beginning.  This is the year that I need to start to earn a viable, rather than the current sporadic, income from playing with words, paper, or fibers or else I will need to enter the workforce.  I can only imagine who would hire me when my resume reads something like this:  Skills:  Plays with paper, paint, scissors, and glue, often with wire, beads, and fibers too.
Everything is in readiness.  My home has been prepared by a thorough culling and cleaning to help with easier maintenance.  The studio stands open awaiting the creative process to begin.  The writing cottage has been turned inside out and is ready for the sounds of tapping or scribbling out of words.  I have untangled myself from any unnecessary commitments and really taken stock of what is needful at this juncture in life.  After careful consideration a 10 week course is about to embarked upon to help me get going in the right direction.  A new schedule has been drawn up with actual built in work days and times.  The hardest part will be consistency on my part and enforcing boundaries for those who have grown use to my flexible availability.

I am feeling anxious, excited, and open to change.  I anticipate that something wonderful this way comes whether it is through a chosen path or an unexpected avenue.  My plan is simple, I will journey along at a steady pace stepping toward one realistic goal at a time.  This year I make no bold statements or resolutions, I choose no word to manifest itself from time to time in the coming year, I make no promises for paths to follow, my only aim to remain faithful to the one thing that is most needful at any given moment and live the new year one moment, one circumstance, one breath at a time, no running ahead, no falling back, just being present in the present.
 "Here's to the bright New Year
And a fond farewell to the old;
Here's to the things that are yet to come
And to the memories that we hold."

~Irish Blessing~

May a blessed and Happy New Year be yours!

HAPPY NEW YEAR...

"A new beginning is perhaps the best time to say...
It’s so nice to know you…
And here’s wishing our friendship
continues to grow in the days to come."

It's time to usher baby NEW YEAR 2012 in!
 (FREE IMAGE)

It has been a privilege and an honor to spend the past 365 days with you through posts, comments, and emails.  We are written into each others hearts and lives, filling in little blank spaces of time on calender pages we call "posts".  We have jotted important notes and funny antidotes.  We have shared joys and snippets of sadness.  We have encouraged one another through creativity.  We have formed friendships and found kindred spirits.

You have made me smile and belly laugh.  I have cried right along side of some of you.  I have thought of you and prayed for you.  You have bolstered my spirit when it was low.  I have found you to be wise and wonderful and witty.  You have written yourselves upon my heart and I proud to call you dear friends.  You have deeply enriched my life story this past year!

 "Each new day is a blank page in the diary of your life. The secret of success is in turning that diary into the best story you possibly can."
-Douglas Pagels-

I wish you Happy New Year and diary full of best stories ever written in your life.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

BASKING IN THE AFTER GLOW...

 We are basking in the after glow of Christmas here at the Quill.
A lone bright star is still shining in the East...
  The shepherds are still abiding in the field watching over the flocks...
The babe is still laying in the manger...
 The Wise Men are still worshiping...
 And we are still rejoicing...
 Baubles still hang upon the tree branches...
 Reflecting the glow that still resides in our hearts...
 The table top tree forests...

That greeted our Christmas Guests...
 Are the only things altered from our holiday celebration...

 Our hearts and our hands remain open...
 Ready to continue into the New Year with the Christmas Spirit of giving and receiving...
 Our hearts remain worshipful...
Our every blessing has tuned our hearts to sing of grace,
His streams of mercy are never ceasing,
And call for songs of loudest praise!

Yes, the Christmas Spirit still remains here at the Quill and I hope it will remain through the New Year still!

I will taking a bit of break for the rest of the week and may not post again until the New Year.
If I don't touch base with you before then I am wishing you all a very blessed, healthy, happy, and prosperous New Year!

TIME MARCHES ON...

A New Years Prayer
-Anonymous-
Dear Lord, please give me…
A few friends who understand me and remain my friends;
A work to do which has real value,
without which the world would be the poorer;
A mind unafraid to travel, even though the trail be not blazed;
An understanding heart;
A sense of humor;
Time for quiet, silent meditation;
A feeling of the presence of God;
The patience to wait for the coming of these things,
With the wisdom to recognize them when they come.
Amen.

It seems like 2010 just marched right on by and now we are stepping across the threshold of a brand new year. I always feel excited at what possibilities a new year might hold. Oh, I am not Pollyanna enough to think that there won't be a few bumps along the way but I prefer to focus on the happy moments in life. 2010 was no exception, there were plenty of bumps and lots and lots of happy!I thought it might be fun to look back over this last year of blogging and share my 2010 memorable or meaningful blog moments...

From January 2010 my favorite reflective moment was documented in Reflections of the Land of My Heart, a post that traces my footsteps of healing the heart and coming to terms with grief and loss...From February 2010 came possibly the craziest tutorial in the history of blogdom, Going Nuts, a tutorial that shows how to turn pistachio nut shells into mini bird eggs for using in art projects...From March 2010 came one of the most fun swaps I have ever done, a Collaborative Birdhouse. Diane Knott and I swapped pieces of projects we had started and then finished the project and returned it. This was hands down one of my favorite things I created this year...In April 2010 I hit one of those bumps in the road and was tossed out of my studio space into a new one plus our lives were rapidly changing, empty nest, change of job, extended family turmoil, lingering sickness, etc. and my angst came out in my reaction to saying, Bye-Bye Midsummers Dream Blue, Hello Red Calico...May 2010 was a toss up between pivotal moments of learning the art of Blending Beauty when life is messy... And the Trans-farm-ation and healing that takes place over the span of time and space...June 2010 was a very slim posting month, I had an extended bout of sickness but roused enough to share a few Birthday Musings to mark the beginning of my 47th year...July 2010 found me making peace with my circumstances in My Gifts from the Sea...
and fostering The Fruit of Friendship...August 2010 found me looking at the lighter side of life while stepping away from the studio for what was supposed to be a relaxing weekend away in You Might be a Die Hard Crafter If...September 2010 was the last delectable sip of summer spending A Simple Silly Day at the Farm before autumn set in...October 2010 was another one of those months with a bump in the road of life when I found humor in having My Nose a Little Out of Joint...November 2010 finally saw the fruit of my labor, after months of being sick, suffering from an allergic reaction to a wasp sting, getting bit by a brown recluse, and a ton of other setbacks I found myself making friends with my new studio and now consider it A Sweet Place to Dream...December 2010 wrapped up one crazy year, another bout of sickness and a couple of allergic reactions later was about more Christmas drama than I cared to experience and then a mouse ate my Christmas tree, I had to have lots of naps and NyQuil, ending up with the most bizarre Christmas display to date here at the Quill, A Romantic Naturalist Melange Hillbilly Chic Kind of Christmas...In a lot of ways this was a rough year here at the Quill but there were so many joys to offset the sorrows, one of those being the friendships I have formed here in the land of blog and the amazing support and encouragement that is ever present. It has been my joy and privilege to spend a year with you all.

And how is 2011 fairing so far? It began with a bang, literally, fireworks going off on the horizon, brilliant sparks of colors peppering the midnight sky. It went from brilliant to bizarre upon waking this morning from a super strange dream, let's just say that watching a show about a CIA operative, marshmallow fluff, Krazy glue, and pink fuzzy bunny slippers are a few things I should never be exposed to before sleep and leave it at that.

We had a beautiful sunny but cold day today in which I spent some time wandering around flea markets and procuring a few treasures and rounding out the day by looking back over my blogging year. There is usually a lot of crazy here at the Quill but this was just a quite reflective ordinary day with a pleasant surprise of a sweet little dream that is unfolding between the January issue of these pages...So January 2011 is off to a good start. You will find no resolutions here only hope for better tomorrows, joys that outweigh any sorrows, and wishes and prayers for grace to bear whatever this new year might hold. Praying this year will be the best you have ever experienced with your very own little dreams unfolding between the pages of your life book!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

A Wee Break and a HAPPY NEW YEAR...

"Glory to God in highest heaven,
Who unto man His Son hath given;
While angels sing with tender mirth,
A glad new year to all the earth."

~Martin Luther~

I will be taking a wee blogging break this week to spend time with my resident Handy Hubby. Today we are driving up to my grandmothers home, well, I guess it is mine now, to check on things and start a list of things we need to do a little updating. I will get to stop in a most the most delicious flea markets along the way to and from so I hope I find some goodies to share with you next week.

I have the background of a new art piece on the work table...I hope to have it ready to list in the shoppe next week!

And I hope that each and every one of you have a bright a blessed New Year!

Blessings,
Miss Sandy
